After more than 24,000 students sat for entrance and placement exams for the University of Liberia, it has been disclosed by the university that no student passed.
The passing scores for the undergraduate entrance exams, which were previously set by the university, were 50 percent in Math and 70 percent in English. Additionally, none of the students who sat for the graduate programs for the Law School and School of Pharmacy passed either, failing to score 70 percent.
Given these results for the above programs, no students would have been accepted for the 2013-2014 school year. However, the UL administration convened to find a solution and recommended the admission of 1,626 undergraduate candidates who scored at least 40 percent in Math and 50 percent in English. These candidates will be required to two take transitional courses in Math and English, for which they will not receive academic credit.
The head of UL Relations Dr. S. Momolu Getaweh, said that the results of the entrance exam demonstrate that Liberia’s education system is still struggling.
