NERD ALERT! I Want (Cotton) Candy
World’s smallest computer. Relatively cheap. Interested?
Imagine the ability to turn any screen into a computer, and then revel that it exists in FXI’s new Cotton Candy. This USB stick-sized device, a little more than three inches long, packs all of the essential hardware components of a PC and an open source operating system to run applications and connect to the Internet with ease. Cotton Candy brings the means to transform “literally” any screen into a personal computer and easily fits in a pocket to take anywhere.
Powered by an ARM® Cortex™-A9 (1GHz) CPU from Samsung, an ARM Mali™-400 MP (Quad-core, 1.2GHz) GPU, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, HDMI output and the Android or Ubuntu Linux operating system, Cotton Candy has the power to decode high definition 1080p video and supports virtually any media format. MicroSD ports give a portable storage solution. Plug the unit into a TV screen with HDMI and the wireless connectivity allows you to operate from across the room with a wifi or bluetooth keyboard and mouse. Prefer to use a smartphone for input, do so!
Through USB ports, Cotton Candy also has the ability to temporarily take over laptops, desktops, and tablets and provide a consistent user experience across any number of screens and input devices. Nerds typically personalize their setups with apps and settings that do not transfer from one device to another, but Cotton Candy creates a single point of content storage and provides easier access to cloud computing. Ultimately, FXI hopes to use Cotton Candy to drive down the cost of computing and to extend the life of hardware and screens by keeping them relevant in an era of constant upgrade. I support any effort to make computing accessible, affordable, and secure for everyone.
