University of the People Partners with NYU Abu Dhabi

The University of the People (UoPeople) was the first tuition-free online university and is dedicated to providing high-quality higher education to those who would not otherwise be able afford it. UoPeople uses open source software and educational resources and a rotating team of world-class volunteer professors to achieve their mission. While the university only offers associates and bachelors degrees in Business Administration and Computer Science, UoPeople students have recently been given a world of opportunities.

Through a new partnership, after one year at UoPeople, a student may apply to New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) and if accepted receives a full scholarship covering tuition, housing, and travel. This is incredible for UoPeople students because without the full scholarship they would never be able to attend a physical four year university. Although UoPeople has been endorsed by Yale and the United Nations, this partnership is the most concrete way that the university will become a launching pad for the underprivileged.

UoPeople started in 2009 and has only graduated 1400 students to date, but by 2015 they hope to have 15,000 enrolled.
