More School Girls Poisoned in Afghanistan

Afghan women voice concerns to coalition forces More than 90 girl students were  poisoned in a high school in northern Afghanistan last week. The incident appears to be part of a string of similar incidents over the past month; in another school, about 125 girls were poisoned from toxins released into the drinking water.

An investigation has long been underway by President Hamid Karzai, and an intelligence service spokesman discovered a conspiracy that reportedly claims the reason behind these poisonings is to scare families enough that they won’t let their children attend school.

Local officials have placed blame on the Taliban, but Taliban representatives are denying these allegations. “The poisoning of innocent children is against Islamic law. The mujahedeen are not involved in the poisoning of schoolchildren. It is a crime,” said Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid in an email.

Although the health of the students is reportedly satisfactory, the cruelty of this act is remembered throughout the world.
