Mandarin-Speaking Volunteers Power New Program for Thai Schools
More than 1,000 volunteers from China are headed to Thailand for a new program to teach Mandarin to Thai students, beginning in primary and secondary schools. An additional 4,000 Chinese volunteers are expected later after the program is underway.
The program was created in response to Thailand and China’s prosperous relationship, in the hope that the classes will aid relations in the future. Understanding of culture and business would be enhanced, allowing this generation to better understand the changes taking place between the two countries.
The program is only a year long, taking place through free or low-cost tutorials for students. However, plans are already in the works to introduce a long-term program for learning Mandarin at Thai universities, where exchange programs between the two countries will also take place.
