India’s Anna University Made Whole Again

CG008/LE005 - Name Plaque

In India, on August 1, Anna University will once again be a single institution of technology. Now, as a result of Anna University’s reunification, the school will have 535 engineering college affiliates and 12 constituent colleges. The unification will not interrupt the academic schedule. Rather, the merger will improve the education of students at Anna University by standardizing the syllabi of engineering students across the country.

According to India’s government, “The world famous Anna University will regain its lost glory, fame and tradition by this merger. By bringing all technical institutions under one umbrella, engineering students all over Tamil Nadu will have the same syllabus. It will also help them contribute better in higher education and research.”

Established in 1978, Anna University was India’s first technical university. In 2007, the DMK regime split Anna University into several regional universities (located in Chennai, Madurai, Coimbatore, Tiruchi, and Tirunelveli) in order to decentralize the administration of technical education and establish locations closer to affiliated engineering colleges.
