The agreement allows for greater collaboration between universities in both areas and will help set a political precedent.

Practical applications will not be created in the immediate future, but all the same, it will allow for a dedication to education and training that has been conspicuously left out of previous agreements. Higher education along with vocational training will most likely receive the most attention.

With this agreement comes the commitment to discuss the progress of the programs already created by both the EU and South Africa. Cooperation could lead to more collaboration on an international scale.

“International partnerships are a resource for the improvement of quality and relevance in our education system. There are many lessons to be learned through cooperation with the EU,” said the South African Deputy Minister for Higher Education and Training.
