Adding Liberal Arts to Higher Ed in Singapore
Diversity in education is the goal for Singapore, a country which has broken new ground with the establishment of the its first liberal arts college: Yale-NUS (National University of Singapore) College will offer courses other universities in Singapore have not offered in the past and will provide opportunities for increasing diversity in the future.
Three public universities are currently open in Singapore with hopes that a fourth will open this year. Other universities such as vocational schools and private universities also help provide different paths for education. Research regarding applied degrees will be conducted as well to gauge the interest in such degrees.
The first students at NUS will attend school in August 2013, with an official campus opening date of 2015. In the meantime, the students will study at the University Town of NUS.
